Aims

Section Summary

Section 1

Rules

To identify the rules that affect us at home, at school and in the community and the consequences of not obeying rules.

To understand the role of the police in upholding the law.

Pupils will:

  • take part in discussion
  • take part in games and role-play around rules
  • experience a visit by a community police officer

Section 2

Voting

To take part in decision making processes.

Pupils will:

  • vote using different methods, e.g. names in a hat, show of hands, secret ballot
  • take part in activities based on votes (a party)

Section 3

Government

To understand the role of local and national government.

Pupils will:

  • take part in class discussion about the role of government, using photographs as stimulus
  • work in small groups to create a big book
