Citizenship Education for Young People with Special Educational Needs: A Teaching Resource

The resource, which is available to download, is the result of a year long project. The activities within it were developed and written up by eleven teachers then piloted in a number of schools. The activities are specifically targeted at pupils with severe and profound and multiple learning difficulties (SLD and PMLD) between the ages of 11 and 16 but are suitable for a wider ability and age range.

There are a great many people whom we would like to gratefully acknowledge for making this project happen, particularly the dedicated and enthusiastic teachers with whom we had the pleasure of working.

There are 11 themes in this resource all of which are equivalent to approximately half a term's work. The full contents list is:

We recommend that you read the introductory sections prior to using the themes to ensure you get the most out of this resource.

Feedback on the project has so far been very positive.

If you have any comments or suggestions, please e-mail feedback@citizen.org.uk or call the Education team on 020 7844 5444.
