The impact of the European Union (EU) on our lives in political, social, economic and cultural terms is ever-increasing.
Europe is a complex issue and there are countless views about it. The Institute aims to:
- encourage as many voices as possible to be heard
- stimulate debates about Europe, around Europe
- raise awareness of the issues concerning European citizenship
We are currently running a project called Speak Out! on European Citizenship which aims to engage young people across Europe in the public debate about Europe and its future.
We have also run a nationwide round table discussion series called Europe and its Citizens - the Future which sought to raise awareness of, and the level of debate about, Europe amongst the British public.
The European Parliamentary elections in June 2004 will be a major focus of work for the Institute for Citizenship. We will be running a nationwide campaign called Get the Vote Out! to encourage voter awareness and hopefully contribute to an increased turnout.
Based on the results of our work, we will provide informed contributions to the ongoing public discussion about the relationship between Europe and its citizens.
